What makes Orcas Unlimited unique?

We make a difference.   At Orcas Unlimited, being environmentally conscious means more than just using green font.  We are involved in marine debris clean-up activities, oil spill response, and scientific research.  Ask us about them.

We are carbon neutral.   Beginning in 2008, we purchase carbon offsets for every trip we guide, year-round.  Our entire business operation, from fuel burned onboard the Celeste to electricity in our facility, is carbon neutral.  Your trip with Orcas Unlimited substantially reduced the carbon footprint of your vacation as well.  Find out more...

We mimize our impact on the oceans and earth.   In the field, we leave little or no evidence of our presence, or of our discoveries.    We achieve this through zero effluent waste discharge through waste treatment, minimizing water and air pollution through careful engine maintenance and fueling, recycling Celeste's household waste, using biodegradable products and cleaning agents, and employing voyage plans and navigation practices conducive to fuel efficiency.  In turn, we ask clients attempt to leave no trace while in the frontier and help them them to achieve this.

OU is only for the strong of body and mind.  Southwest Alaska is a vast frontier of mountains, oceans, and wildlife, each presenting unique inherent dangers.  Many adventurers are drawn here to stand in awe of this collision of mountains and sea, and to feel the challenge of life outside their comfort zone.  To navigate safely through this wilderness requires good judgment, caution, and teamwork!

We are open to new ideas. It was an open mind that first conceived of Orcas Unlimited, and the support of more open minds to make it a reality.  We offer new, exciting itineraries every year.  If you have ideas for OU adventures, please share them with us
